My family just got back from our first trip to KahNeeta.  It's a resort in the high desert of Oregon.  We had a great time!  My daughter learned to swim from her grandma and we all got to spend some much needed fun time together as a family.

Unfortunately, along with the good, comes the bad.  Although I was a diligent mother and made sure my kids were protected from the sun (sunscreen recipe here), I wasn't quite as diligent with my husband and I.  We, unfortunately, came home a little "crispy" from the suns rays!  Thank goodness I had all the ingredients on hand to make a soothing salve!  I whipped this concoction up right after I made a good soothing spray (for those untouchable burns).  It felt so good and I knew it was healing my damaged skin too.

  • 1/2 TB beeswax prills
  • 1 TB shea butter
  • 2 TB coconut oil
  • 4 TB aloe vera gel
  • 10 drops lavender essential oil
  • 10 drops peppermint essential oil
  • 5 drops frankincense essential oil

After Sun Soothing Salve

  • Heat beeswax, shea butter and coconut oil in a double boiler over medium heat to melt down.
  • Once beeswax, shea butter and coconut oil are completely melted down remove from heat.
  • Add in aloe vera, and essential oils
  • Use a whisk, or an electric  whisk to blend well.
  • Pour into small mason jar with lid

Since this recipe contains aloe vera, I was sure to make a small batch that would get used up within the week.  I wouldn't want to leave this out for too long and risk the chance of mold growing - EW!
