Morning Elixir


Throughout history internal detoxing and cleansing has been practiced in many cultures.  As our world grows more toxic, regarding chemical creations, our bodies are being overwhelmed with the burden of having to process these excess toxins.  Detoxing and cleansing supports the body systems in ridding itself of unnecessary buildup and waste, which will help us to perform at our best.  

Many say that if I keep up a healthful diet (which is varied depending on the newest books and blogs), I don't need to cleanse.  Makes sense, but I don't always keep a healthful diet.  I try my best, but many times I fail and it's hard to get back on track.  So to get myself back on track, I participate in a cleanse at least once a year, if not more.  I reduce my sugar and grains intake to very little or none at all.  I focus on healthy meats and produce that is low in sugar.  The cleanse that I have participated in always suggests starting with a morning elixir -  much like the one you see below.  

Whether or not I am working on a cleanse, I try to keep up on my morning elixir.  Although I never use to like Apple Cider Vinegar, I've come to enjoy my morning elixir!

  • Warm Water - I've read lots of benefits to drinking warm water, not only in the morning, but all the time.  I've also read benefits of drinking cold water, but I enjoy drinking a nice hot (not too hot) glass of water when I wake up so I'll stick to what I like.
  • Lemon - An excellent source of vitamin C and lemon is great for digestion and cleansing.  There are so many benefits of adding some lemon juice to your water!
  • Bragg's Raw Apple Cider Vinegar - Amongst many benefits, ACV is full of enzymes and good bacteria.  It also helps to alkalinize the body and may lower blood sugar levels, which could be beneficial for diabetics
  • Stevia - Has been used traditionally as a treatment for diabetics and may actually improve blood sugar control.  You can read more about that here.
  • Essential Oils - I change up what essential oils I use in my morning elixir depending on what I'm trying to address with my health.  Always use CPTG essential oils that are safe for internal consumption.  
Essential Oil Options
  • Cassia:  Considered anti-viral and anti-bacterial, it's good to boost the immune system.
  • Cinnamon Bark:  Supports blood sugar levels, digestion and the immune system.  I just love the sweet taste!
  • Ginger:  Supports the digestive and nervous systems.  
  • Grapefruit:  Considered a cleansing oil and is good to support the cardiovascular system
  • Lemon:  Supports the digestive, immune and respiratory systems.
  • Lime:  Supports the digestive, immune and respiratory systems.  I love lime and ginger together!
  • Orange:  Supports the digestive and immune systems.  Try this with cinnamon or cassia - it's so tasty!

The Recipe

  • 12-16oz warm water
  • Juice from 1/2 lemon
  • 1 tsp - 2 TB Raw Apple Cider Vinegar (start with less)
  • 1-5 drops of essential oil of choice (my favorite:  1 drop cinnamon w/3 drops orange)
  • 1-4 drops stevia (or to taste)
Stir ingredients together and enjoy!
