I have been making homemade body care products for 7+ years and this is one of my favorite recipe's!  You will love it too - the texture is amazing and it is super nourishing for the skin.  This is great for everyday use, but especially for these winter months when we tend to find our skin extra dry from the cold (although here in Oregon, we don't have it too bad this year).  I'll warn you though, if you start giving it as gifts, your friends and family will be asking for more and more - it's that good!  Enjoy

Whipped Body Butter w/essential oils
Ingredients
  • Coconut Oil - full of antioxidants and vitamin E, incredible moisturizing capabilities, easily and quickly absorbs into the skin.
  • Shea Butter - natural healing properties help to rebuild collagen as well as prevent and heal scarring.
  • Cocoa Butter - penetrates to the deeper layers of the epidermis to protect and nourish.
  • Arrowroot - helps the oils from the body butter to sink into the skin more quickly, leaving a less greasy feeling.
  • Vitamin E - moisturizing and highly nourishing.  Also acts as a natural preservative.
Recipe
  • 1/2 C Shea Butter
  • 1/2 C Cocoa Butter
  • 1/2 C Coconut Oil
  • 1/2 C Fractionated Coconut Oil
  • 2 TB Arrowroot
  • 1/4 tsp Vitamin E
  • Essential Oils (see below)
Essential Oil Blend in Options
  • Aging Skin:  Anti-Aging Blend
  • Calming:  Calming Blend
  • Dry Skin:  Geranium
  • Energizing:  Invigorating Blend
  • Sensitive Skin:  Lavender
  • Stretch Marks:  Lavender and Myrrh
Directions
  • Melt coconut oil and butters in a double boiler over medium heat.
  • Once mixture has completely melted, turn heat to low (you want to keep it in this melted translucent state) and start a timer for 20 minutes.  This keeps the Shea Butter from becoming grainy later on.
  • While you are waiting on the first mixture to melt down, mix fractionated coconut oil, vitamin e and arrowroot powder in a small bowl with a fork until all the clumps are mixed in.
  • Once the melted butter/beeswax mixture has been over low heat for 20 minutes, remove from heat.  Add in fractionated coconut oil mixture and stir in to incorporate.
  • Let mixture cool until thickened up and starting to solidify (this can take overnight - to speed up the process, set in refrigerator, checking on it after an hour or two).
  • After mixture has thickened, whip it with a stand mixer until light and fluffy.  I usually start my mixer on low and increase it to high pretty quickly - then I'll let it whip up for about 7 minutes.  This gives it an airy texture that is incredible to apply to skin!
  • If adding the same essential oils to the whole batch, add 30 drops now and mix it in.  If you want to create some variety for gift giving, transfer mixture to glass mason jars and add different essential oils into each jar (6 drops/ 4 oz jar) and mix it in.
  • Ready to use OR wrap it up to give as gifts.

One batch generally makes up almost 10 - 4 oz glass mason jars.  This is a great recipe for gift giving!
